STAFF FOCUS: Rebecca Ellington

A few years ago, when her first wave of friends were getting hitched, Rebecca Ellington rose to the occasion. Going far beyond her bridesmaid duties, she volunteered to send save-the-dates, coordinate logistics, and be the unofficial day-of coordinator. She didn’t think it would be a precursor to her career. She just wanted to help out her friends. ⁠

By the time she moved from Mississippi to Colorado with her husband Jack, there was no denying that event planning was her destiny. While working at a marketing agency, Rebecca began moonlighting in the events world. She linked up with a local event planner who became her mentor for two years. Rebecca learned the ropes of the business and was encouraged to open up her own company. ⁠

After relocating to Chattanooga last May, Rebecca dove into all things events. Last September, she launched her own wedding planning agency, An Ellington Event. Within weeks, Rebecca was booking event after event. Her talents caught the attention of Common House’s Shelby Howick who asked Rebecca if she wanted to tour House No.3 as a wedding planner. ⁠

“I instantly fell in love with the building,” Rebecca stated, “I’d never seen anything like it.” When applications went out for Common House Chattanooga’s Director of Private Events, Rebecca immediately applied, and we are so excited to have her at the helm making celebrations of all sizes come to life. ⁠

“There is no other venue quite like Common House,” Rebecca noted, “it’s not a church or a barn. It’s so unique and that’s what I love about it. You don’t get a lot of places where you can get your catering, alcohol, AV equipment, and all your rentals.
